Intuitive Diagrams is a system of images started years ago (as a parallel activity), drawing and sketching intuitions inspired by threads of philosophical thoughts and personal experiences. Intuitive Diagrams represents a beginning of a metamodern system of icons that embody some key ideas from process philosophy, geophilosophy and complexity theory. I am Inspired by the Rider Waite Tarot cards and current design thinking diagramming of process. After I compiled these images together into one book, I found certain diagrammatic features common throughout the collection. These diagrams are a kind of shorthand. There are currently 15 basic shapes that I extracted from an archive of sketches and diagrams that communicate philosophical and scientific concepts. This project is an aesthetic synthesis of diagrams; (created to understand complex ideas), icons; (created from key features of the diagrams), and operations;( signifying virtual transformations). The illustrations are rooted in qualities of personal everyday experiences while the diagrams accompanying them are schematics of analysis. When used together, the schematics map operations of flow moving through experience blending together creative advance with critical thinking. The expression of personal experience into a wider semiotic system is consistent with a radical empiricism. The cards can be used as a random generator to evoke speculative philosophical inquiry. They are designed to situate each experience within larger meta systems emphasizing ecological relationships. Expanding the context of our everyday experiences is to live in a commitment to ontological design. Essentially the context of this project can be summarized as: Radical empiricism argues that personal experience can be expressed and extrapolated to broader generalizations. Intuitive Diagrams are a kind of shorthand that captures the essence of some of my own experiences. The essence of something or event is intuition. The intuition of a thing or an event diagrams a meaning. This meaning is based on a duration which is whole and complete Meaning acquired through a duration, essence, intuition is holistic creating a new context to experience. We are born into context, and only through intuition can context be created. Creation is novelty, and novelty is creating something from nothing. In duration of intuition, there is no-self or assessment, only meaning. In the intuition of experience something can be created from nothing. Within this no-self or nothing, something is created is meaningful and essential. The process of intuition is relational and leads to ecological thought. The ethics of expanding relationships of contrasting elements is inclusivity. Ecological thinking is inclusive of contrasting yet accommodating entities. Ecosystems balance through filling degrees of freedom of an expanding phase space of possibilities and defining boundaries of engagement. Aesthetic Synthesis correlates degrees of freedom for creative advance. I would like to acknowledge and thank Genevieve Tremblay for being an one who makes connections, Fisher Qua for his helpful input, Keith McCandless for his inspiring work in making complexity concepts practical methods of engagement and finally Zakiya Hanafi for her intellectual insights and support.
